Te Aitanga a Mahāki, Ngāti Oneone, Whanau a Kai
Takatāpui, Scorpion, Femme - pretty much sums her up! Elizabeth worked for many years in the museum/gallery sector, culminating in designing the marae and Māori spaces of Te Papa, where she and partner, Alofa Aiono, held their Civil Union in 1996. After a lifetime of not getting much art done, Elizabeth became a full-time artist in 2009 and is completing a Bachelor of Maori Visual Art at Toihoukura, Gisborne. Elizabeth has a background in graphic design and is developing her weaving, uku (clay) work and carving skills. Her work explores issues around lesbian/Māori feminism, takatāpui and Atua Wāhine.
